Rorasori has spent several days studying the ritual book of the Grey Delphine. He's gleaned some information from it, so far.

It is almost entirely detailing the ritual used in creating the healing potion Zydrate. There is probably a little information to be inferred about the Grey God himself from the text but that will take a little more studying and reflection.

Toward the end of the ritual, it appears as though a small portion of the ritualist's life force is imbued into the potions. (Translation: A small number of temporary hitpoints go into the potions.) It will take a master alchemist to be able to tell why this is necessary, however, if even he can.

Rorasori's knowledge of magic does tell him that this would give the ritual caster an intimate connection with each and every potion he creates.

OK Guys I'm throwing this out here right now so that people can consider things. Similar to the first future game I ever ran (with the Keth and other species), I'm putting out a call for the creation of new alien races. What I'm looking for is the following:

A description of the physical traits of the species.

A description of the dominant culture of the species.

A description of the homeworld that the species evolved upon. If further evolution evolved or was genetically engineered explain why it occurred.

GURPS stats for the species, up to 50 points in cost. At present no disadvantage limit but if it seems insane I'll state as much.

Why the species evolved to have the traits, abilities, and cultural characteristics that it has.

What I am NOT looking for:

Ridiculous stuff like straight up rabbit, bear, and lion people. If the species name is blatantly along these lines I'll at least reject the name.

Robotic or other constructed "species".

Blatant ripoffs of established species from other science fiction settings, including but not limited to Star Trek and Star Wars.

Keth that have boobs. Keth are acceptable though. Not all species would have our same characteristics and anatomies. As a matter of fact cross-breeding is impossible in a natural setting, however sex is entirely different.

A brief snapshot of what the setting is:

Galactic civilization has existed for a LONG, LONG time.

There are many nations throughout the galaxy and due to the nature of how stars move there is no such thing as contiguous territory. Some civilizations may be on a handful of planets but they have been there for hundreds of thousands of years and are now separated by vast distances, possibly leading to sub-species.

Humans are one of the numerically smaller species in the galaxy at least for the time being.

True Faster-Than-Light travel exists without magical assistance.

Near instantaneous communication across the galaxy exists without magical assistance. When I say near I mean minor delays/lag similar to making calls over seas.

Magic exists and there are no unusual restrictions upon it. that means no Dragonlance fatigue rules and no lack of Fate magic.

No plot has officially been set, just some general concepts.

I said I was going to post this Saturday/Sunday. I forgot all about it. Life is kind of odd and busy right now.

There was an odd rumor that always floated around camp. It's something that happens so rarely that few believe the stories. When someone tells you about it, it always starts, "My friend's cousin's uncle said..." It doesn't help that the claims are hardly verifiable. But every once in a while, one of the miners, always during his first week working directly at the mines, will experience a huge jump in ability, magical potential, etc. It never happens more than once and it doesn't seem to happen to many people at all if stories are to be believed. And no one really knows why. It could be a result of alchemical interactions during the initial refining process or working with so much of the raw water. No one simply knows.

Your group was chosen as one of the few to go down into the holes partially for this reason. There are more Amalgam teams then there are holes to send them into and all the other Amalgam teams chosen were veteran teams, well suited to working together. Yours is the only new team sent. It's even more important to not that you're the NEWEST Amalgam team. But no team yet has claimed more than one member to have received this mysterious benefit from the Waters, let alone all of them.

Erona
Antaea
Ition
Itosium
Salerias
Sumorias
Zeelacus
Perenon (I kinda like this one)
Utartus

Another idea.. some kind of bastardization or corruption of "Dawn of Worlds".

prima luce mundis is "the first light of the world" in Latin. Some shortened or corrupted form of that would be nice.

You start out working at the healing "spring", for someone else in the camp. The healing spring is still there and is currently being collected and bottled. Quest night, I'll give you more of an idea what's going on, but this is enough to make your characters.

*Points:85
*Disadvantages: 40
*Quirks: 5
*No more than -20 points from stat reduction
*Starting wealth: None! Equipment will be provided for later.
*Scaling backstory awards. The more people submit backstories, the more points everyone gets.
**Backstories must be submitted on the wiki.
**Backstories may be submitted any time between now and the second quest. At minimum, should answer these questions:
***Where did you come from?
***Where are/were you going?
***How did you end up at the healing spring?
***Where did your equipment go?

So what's next? We have a couple options. Each one would be quite different in setting and theme.

1. Pick up Mage where we left off.
Theme: Mystery/What the hell is going on?

Everyone would be mages.

Modern world.

Rules for Vulgar (obvious use of) magic would be reinstated.

Same characters as before, but not the same stats.

High point total campaign.

2. Planar Jaunt: Part 3 The Undiscovered Country
Theme: Standard Fantasy

Not much Planar or Jaunting at first (possibly at all, tbd).

Start in the world we created in Dawn of Worlds.

First part of the quest would be finding out where the healing water went (remember that?).

All custom races, though nice and balanced due to GURPS.

Slightly elevated point total due to custom races?

3. Something new. Super Heroes/Villains game. Why? Because they're fun.
Theme: Comic book-y for Heroes/Darker for Villains

Villain or Hero, it would be up to you guys.

More likely than not fairly freeform.

Very high point total game.

Probably a shorter campaign.

I'd be willing to entertain any other ideas as well. I don't really have a preference. I may develop one later. I'd like to get this figured out in a few days so I can start planning though. The first quest night would be mostly character creation regardless.

For those of you being experts at the Mage system, roughly what would it take for a group of mages to attempt terraforming a planet such as Mars? Is it even possible given enough mages with the right spheres? In this case there are the following requirements:

Mars:

Thicker atmosphere with more oxygen.

Powering up the planet's core to generate more geothermal heat to warm the planet.

Enriching the soil for allowing plant life.

Possibly making the planet more dense to make its gravity be a closer match to Earth.

Transforming the core to be of more iron in content so that a magnetic field can be naturally generated thus shielding the planet from solar flares.

For other planets or moons in our solar system:

Purifying the atmosphere of toxic gasses.

Chilling the atmosphere with more cloud cover (more moisture in the air).

Chilling a planet by lowering its core's temperature thus lowering the radiant heat in the crust.

Moving a planet or moon closer or further from its parent body. This could also be used to stabilize the axis of a planet similar to our moon stabilizing the Earth's.

Creation of an atmosphere (think the moon).

These don't need to be completed as part of the same ritual though that would be totally awesome.

On a related note, what would it take to create a new Earth.

Abra-abra-cadabra
I'm gonna jump out and stab ya
Abra-abra-cadabra
Abracadabra

Every time I kill and maim
People think that I'm insane
I'm insane, full of desire
To stab you, feed the funeral pyre

You're tied up, you can't get down
I've got you bleedin' 'Round and 'round
You're tied up, you can't get down
I've got you bleedin' 'Round and 'round

OK since the private messaging is fucked int he new mobile theme I'll just post it here...

Yes, Dragonlance still has the magic tiring people thing involved with it. As Bogy suggested we could go the Fatigue route with casting instead of Mana. Personally I prefer not to go this route and leave the two pools separate but linked. Basically I was thinking of the following:

Mana @ 100% - Only failures to cast result in loss of fatigue.
Mana @ 50% - See above plus this occurs even on successes under 4.
Mana @ 25% - Each spell cost takes a minimum of 1 point of fatigue plus more depending upon the level of success or failure.
Mana @0% - You can still cast, however you are casting directly from fatigue at twice the cost of mana.

Please provide feedback on what you think and any suggestions here.

OK, so here are some rough ideas of for April Fools this year.

1. GURPS Stupers! Create your own bumbling Superhero, complete with stereotypical disabilities, and battle against the forces of Evil. 200-300 point characters with 100 pts of disadvantages. One being at least 60 points.

2. GURPS Stupers Henchmen! Create your own bumbling Supervillain, complete with stereotypical disabilities, and create a half-cocked plan to take over the world. You will be underlings in a large, criminal organisation (think Cobra). The plan, which either the group or I will create, will be complex, convoluted, and easily foiled by a group of good guys.

3. Alien invasion! Create your own alien race, with it's own personality and agenda for modern day Earth. Cooperate with or perhaps sabotage the other PC's as you attempt to avoid detection by the Earth's governments (ha) while trying to complete your goals. Part of the SUN (Space United Nations), the Earth has been found to have some sort of importance (resources, slaves, technology) and you are sent to investigate/steal/purchase what the SUN needs to survive.

4. Stupid Fantasy game! A throwback to previous April Fools games. You know the drill. Ridiculous plot. Inept heroes. Much bumbling and fail.

These are just the barest outlines of ideas. I'll expand more upon them, or answer questions, so please ask. It may help me flesh them out more.

Act III: Chapter 2: The Red Queen

Soon their intelligence contacts came through with a lead on the where abouts of the girl whom Imhotep had possessed. They had a narrow window to attack in the hopes of bringing everything to a quick end.

Upon arriving, they found the Red Queen aboard a major pirate hub negotiating with the pirate commanders. The Relentless Talon easily managed to dock and gain access to the station. Aboard they managed to locate the site of the meeting and prepared for an all-out offensive.

They attack started out well with the group quickly dispatching the guards. The closer they got however things became worse. Soon they found themselves fighting the mindless drones which were being coordinated by the Red Queen. The Red Queen learned of the attack as it happened and began to move towards her ship to leave the station for the duration of the attack. The group however managed to catch up with the Red Queen and eliminate her guards.

At this point she took action herself. She breathed out a massive amount of sand that blasted through the protective suits of the group. Soon a fwe of them started to battle in their minds over their actions. The Red Queen took advantage of this situation and began using her own magical powers. She starting throwing objects around and trying to gain control over the group members.

The group overcame this but soon realized that they were outmatched as she seemed to have some sort of protective barrier against laser weapons and they would have difficulty approaching her. They began to retreat before she reached the safety of her ship.

Meanwhile the Talon came under attack by pirates. Seeking a quick solution to get out Captain Frost was forced to allow a few of the ship's Warforged to connect to the web in an attempt to perform electronic warfare against the pirate vessels. This succeeded in buying enough time for the group to reach a shuttle the Talon had left on the station. Once the group arrived the Talon folded out of the system.

Act III: Chapter 3: The Immune

Unsure how they could be effective against the Red Queen who would now be on the defensive, the group was trying to find alternative plans. Humans had minds and no suit could protect against the sand blasting attack that the Red Queen had employed. They didn't have enough Warforged to perform another assault on their own.

It took a lengthy debate but they decided that they needed to make contact with the Synthetic Alliance. Luckily while connected the ship's warforged were "infected" with the supposed "Killbot Upgrade". The upgrade did not seem to actually trigger hostile actions in the Synthetics but rather enabled their artificial intelligence units and removed many code blocks keeping their intelligence limited. It also provided them with a location to meet up with the Synthetic Alliance.

The group decided to follow these directions in order to make contact. Upon arriving, they were greeted by a small group of three Frigates. The group provided data to the Synthetic Alliance proving the existence of the Red Queen and the Mind Controlling Leaches.

The information was taken by the Synthetics and passed through their leadership channels. The Synthetics decided that the future of humanity at this point did not matter to them. If they were to give their assistance they would need something in return. What the synthetics proposed was that the group infiltrate a compound to gain the release of a Robotics Engineer. If the group could bring him back alive and convince him to aid the Synthetics in building a factory that would allow them to build and enhance their kind they would assist. The group took some time to mull this over.

Zombor was vehemently opposed to the idea fearing that Synthetics capable of improving themselves and building new generations of synthetics would lead to the extinction of humanity at some point in the future. The group debated long and hard on this situation before coming up with an answer.

PLEASE DEBATE THIS AND PROVIDE A RESPONSE!

Please help flesh out the stats on races and make suggestions where you feel you can. You guys will be starting in the Desolation in a remote part of Zuran's Empire. The region will be a contested wilderness type town in a harsh desert environment, think old western movies for the basic atmosphere.

It is a long ways off as things stand today but I'm in the process of starting to come up with rules for Dragonlance in GURPS! Feel free to help out and make suggestions on the wiki for rules.

When it comes to races I'm breaking things out into Physical and Cultural so that when you have a mixed-breed it is easier to do the mixing. Effectively you'd HAVE to take all things that cross over between the two races (or more if it is several generations worth of mixing but in that case please provide genealogy getting down to you.) The cultural is there so if you were raised within one of the parent cultures you would be taking those cultural traits and optionally taking traits from the others if you feel it is appropriate for your character.

OK. I already told most of you what the playtest game this weekend is going to be, but allow me to reiterate, and give everyone a chance to bid for characters, post character ideas, etc.

The setting is Alistair's universe, a few years before the current campaign. A particular Senator is running on a platform of artificial intelligence rights, which has lead to many death threats, attempts on his life, etc. The CSV Jack Pallance has been ordered to escort him to an important, high profile rally on a key United Colonies world.

The crew of the CSV Jack Pallance is known for being the dirtiest, most underhanded, insubordinate vessel in the fleet. They are, unfortunately for the UC, also known for getting shit done, no matter the cost. The Jack Pallance will be taking a devious route to the planet in question, acting as a decoy, while the PC's will be protecting the Senator on a much smaller vessel, the CSV Cloak and Dagger.

I need each of you to volunteer for a certain position, for this playtest to go properly. Here are the positions:
The Senator (a mage with few offensive capabilities, and many defensive ones)
Officer - Alistair 2nd choice
Sharpshooter - Avian 1st choice
Robot - Jarvis 1st choice
Combat mage - Mikee 1st choice
Techie - Alistair 1st Choice
The rest will just be your run of the mill army grunts

Edit: As for points, I was thinking around 200. We can use that as a bar to see how many points we want the converted campaign to be.
